How to Stop a Cat From Scratching the Couch

It’s been two months since I put them up on a new couch and they worked really well. The adhesive is amazing, didn’t even need the pins. I tried to remove one in a corner and it didn’t damage the material. Overall super happy with them. I would like to see a more dull option, since from certain angles it’s shiny.

Purchased for a new sofa and chairs; these were very easy to install, peel and stick. Very sturdy and stick well to a corduroy/velour material. They are clear and are noticeable especially in daylight but rather this than torn material. Definitely has stopped scratching of nail claws on furniture using cat scratch pole more often. There are a generous amount of pin cushion that are easy to twist into the material once you break through the plastic. Hold the corners in place much better. Would recommend product. Have been on the sofa for almost 3 weeks now and still holding well. Highly recommend. Only wish there were more sheets in package. Good size.

We have a (usually) well behaved cat who unfortunately likes to scratch at our new couch to get our attention. She hasn't done any visible damage yet, so we though we'd try this double sided training tape.Honestly I haven't seen or heard her scratch at our couch once since we put it on, I'm sure she's tried but the tape is doing it's job! I recently got new couches and my cats who are pretty well trained decided to try and scratch it. After browsing and reading all the reviews I went ahead with this couch protector. The sheets are quite durable and my cats did try going around them to scratch but they’ve given up.I do recommend this couch protector for cats.

Awesome product, it saved my new sectional! It's really easy to install if you read the directions first. I've had it on for 3 days and my cats haven't gone near the couch. I was a bit worried at first about cat hair sticking to the outside of the tape but it doesn't very much, and is still a lot better than permanent scratches on the couch.Love the little stickers that come with it too!! I will definitely be buying more when I purchase other new furniture!

Initially thought this would not be effective, but it is. Our couch is cloth, so our cat unfortunately loves to cratch it. With these protectprs, he has not done it at all.I think over time the stickiness degrades, especially on the corners. But that is where the i cluded hooks come in. I dont use them tho, I just. Make sure to cover the areas not on the edge of the plastic, but in the middle.

I used these for my new velvet couch and it works great!! I chose velvet because even if they scratch anywhere else on the couch it barely shows if anything at all. Thanks for making this awesome product!

I have tried other protectors before, and this one was the first pre-cut set I had gotten. It came with 7 large sheets and 5 smaller sheets plus some bonus chair socks for floor protection! It came with some nails to also secure them better onto certain fabrics, but I couldn't use them with the velvet sofas I was using them for.PROS:- Dense and high quality-- my cat can't scratch through them- Easy to apply and adjust- Additional screws for securityCONS:- The sizing was very awkward and it didn't cover the sides of my sofa well. I had to use the smaller strips to cover parts- It is very visible in comparison to other guards- You would have to cut some of the sheets anyway to get them to fit. It makes more sense to have the same amount in one role rather than one-sized-fits-all sheets.

For starters, the clear (albeit shiny) protective sheets are subtle and look better on my couch than similar products I've used. The material is quite thick and durable, and while it's done a good job at preventing my cats from making the couch their new favorite scratching post, the sheets are almost too thick for their own good. They have to be applied as perfectly as possible in order to prevent them from bulging or coming off. The adhesive itself is decent and won't damage my couch, but it's not necessarily strong enough to stay. The kit tries to mitigate these two issues by offering two different sheet sizes (which can also be trimmed down to a preferred size) as well as twist-in pins to hold the sheets in place. I've found that pre-bending the sheets for corners and applying as perfectly as possible has been the best method to keeping them on the couch. The twist-in pins are good in theory, but constantly popping out a little bit so I have to push them back in, and then the clear pieces stick out quite a lot. If you have cats that are rather curious, these may become a new thing for them to play with and potentially swallow. My cat hasn't managed to take any out, but she has tried to chew on them a couple times. Overall, they're decent sheets but could be better. Placing them on the solid edges of furniture have worked well, but if you need something more flexible to go on the lower cushions of your couch, I may look elsewhere.

I didn’t realize when I ordered this that it was sticky, I thought it was a harder plastic like I had used before. So when I opened it I was sceptical at how it would work… but as my cats are apparently dedicated to destroying my sofa I put it on. It’s been on for a few months now and not come off at all. The cats avoid it like the plague. There is a singular paw print where one tried it out and was like nope. No more scratches in the sofa!It’s on the sofa in the basement so it doesn’t effect me cause we don’t really use it, however I don’t think I’d use it in a high traffic area. It’s basically like double sided tape and stuff sticks to it, I could imagine if it was on the upstairs sofa it might drive me nuts with things sticking to it or even me sticking to it. Our cats have ruined so many couches. We bought a couch I desperately wanted to keep nice so I bought these on a whim, they were sticky enough to stay on the couch but came with little clips to keep them in place for longer periods. Our cat immediately tried to scratch the couch as soon as it was through the door. They are now completely uninterested in the couch and moved on to the carpet. We have had them on for 6 months and we can hardly notice them.

We didn’t have much hope that this cat tape (who heard of such a thing?) would actually work, but it does! Ok, our cats ruined our prior sofa. When we got this new one, we were determined NOT to let this happen! We just applied the tape to the places they liked to scratch on our last sofa and all along the back as well. We have 2 lil goblins that have ripped a couch to shreds, we got a new couch and did not want a repeat of the occurrence. Decided to get this thinking what the hell worst case its a few bucks. This thing works so damn well both the cats don't want to get anywhere near the couch to try and scratch it anymore. Wish we had done this the first time. 100% recommend it. Only real complaint is that it may give you an unwanted waxing if you get stuck to it accidentally.

Amazing product and service. I had always owned declawed rescue cats, but I think it's cruel, and declawing is actually banned where I live. This product.....AMAZING. It was easy to install, did not harm my furniture and left no residue (I had to move a few of the panels and apply differently when I moved sofa so I know what to expect when panels removed). It doesn't look terrible either! I used the double sided ones first, but my cats were walking across it and getting stuck and annoyed 😂, so I swapped it out afterwhile and I have zero regrets. I have two kittens, and have been behavior training them. Naturally curious and a bit rebellious, they explore and jump up on counters, scratch the couch, and jump up at their room door when they want to get to me. The tape has really helped. They very quickly stopped jumping on counters and dangerous high places, stopped scratching areas of the couch, and door jumping has stopped (mostly. They only do it when I get home if I’ve been gone longer than usual). Great stuff and very helpful.

I've had this on my couch for a little over a week and the cat tried to scratch it once and immediately stopped! Unfortunately, as you can see in the picture, I didn't order this product till my couch was already scratched up. Because of that, the damage is under the clear protector. But it won't be getting worse and that is the absolute most important part! This kit comes with multiple plastic sheets that are adhesive on one side. You just peel off the backing and stick it to whatever you want to protect. You can cut them to size if needed. It also comes with these little twisty pins that are often used on fabric furniture to attach fabric and hold it in place. I just put four on the protector I put on my couch. If the cats hadn't already gotten in the habit of scratching that I probably wouldn't have used the pins, but I think they'll eventually try and I figured it's better to have the pins there to keep the protector safely on. They also came with the cutest little floor protectors that look like cat feets! Although I might put them on the cat as socks because that's funny. Found this product very easy to install. It has stuck on the couch no problem since I put it on over week ago. I'm glad there are multiple pieces in the package because I might need one for another space if they decide to start scratching something else. All in all I think this kit was great and it had everything I needed and I adore the little free gift! I would definitely buy this product again.

This product, when used effectively, will deter your cat's from hitting the couch. Do take some measurements and think about where you'll put them. This specific one (no tacks, double-sided tape) is about the size of two normal slices of paper... you can cut them to size which is great but then it is more difficult to peel the backing off since only one corner has a little tab on it to help peel that backing. If you have a bigger couch, you'll be getting creative about where to put them and need to size them accordingly. This isn't difficult to do though, and these things work great!

Yep, it works. It's not rocket science. We have had an older cat for 10 years, who never scratched, I guess we were lucky. Now we've added 2 sibling kittens that are very sweet but very clearly at least 50% demon. They want to turn every object on the planet into confetti. We have combined this fabric tape with what experts call "training" to try to make the kittens scratch less, but, only having had an old cat for 10 years, we might as well be trying to teach the new kittens calculus. We'd heard about products like this and were using packing tape backwards as a type of ghetto solution at first. It seemed to work, so, we got these sheets to try instead. They work. The kittens stopped scratching. Or rather, they stopped scratching our couches and are forced to become more creative in ways they may ruin our house with their adorable little paws and demon blades. The product works perfectly, but a side-effect of using it is that you will forget it's there, and then one day one of the boys is sitting down in shorts, and when they go to stand up it tries to wax their legs smooth. This isn't a failure of the product, it's just a consequence of needing to use it. I hate that we need to use this, but I'm not buying new couches every year either, so, the price for my peace is eternal vigilance.

I have 3 fur kids, and only one wants to use the furniture as his personal form of entertainment. My cat absolutely loves scratching and destroying my sofa, bed frame, ottoman, chairs, etc you name it. It's frustrating sometimes as I love her and I love my furniture lol. These protectors though work fantastic as I put them easily affixed to the hot spots she loves and now she's more encouraged to use her scratching pads and posts. Applying *any* cover to a couch is problematic, complicated by fabrics that don't accept adhesives on soft, pliable surfaces as well as the added complication of moving surfaces for recliners, etc. With all that in mind, I found that these cat scratch furniture protectors work quite well.Pros:* Adhesive is just about right - neither too sticky, nor not sticky enough.* Size of pieces - also just about right (2x sizes), which can be combined as needed.* Good ease of use, e.g., removing the tape backing, applying to couch surface, etc.* Fastener pins - although not perfect - work well enough (see my comments below)Cons:* Kind of pricey, though I did get a discount when shopping during Christmas time.* The "1, 2, 3" instructions gloss over some challenges, e.g., how to combine / position sheets, how many fasteners to use, and how to use fasteners under different circumstances.Fasteners:Worth a few comments (see close-up pics of the fasteners, and of the fasteners installed). They're these curious twist/push pins with a sharp tip that you push through the protective sheet and couch fabric, then firmly twist to "grab the couch fabric" and help keep the protective sheets attached to your couch. When I first looked at them, I initial reaction was that they were kind of sketch - a strange shape, and not very strong. But as I applied them I began to realize that they work pretty well under challenging circumstances to provide some degree of improved "stay in place" durability for your affixed protective sheets. After installing dozens of fasteners here's a few take-aways I hope will be helpful:* The fastener head is small and it's a bit difficult to force the fastner tip through 1 or 2 sheets and through the couch fabric, so I used a vice-grip to hold a fabric needle and used that to "pre-drill" holes for the fasteners, which then were easy to poke through the hole and begin twisting.* Even under ideal conditions twisting the fastener into the couch fabric and ensuring it is flush to the protective sheet in order to hold it in place is an art. It helps to visualize the spiral needle worming it's way through the fabric then at the end you need one last extra firm twist to "lock" the fastener in place, which on the inside means that you've compressed the spiral needle against the back side of fabric.* It's a bit more tricky when there's wood behind the fabric. If the fabric is glued to the word, you're probably out of luck, but if there's some "flex" to the fabric you can wiggle the fastener and gently pull the fabric toward you (away from the wood) to allow the spiral needle to worm it's way in.* Sometimes despite your best effort the fastener doesn't go in or stay in properly or mount with the head nice and flush against the protective sheet. My take is that this is to be expected since the whole process of inserting the fasteners is a combination of art, skill and luck. If a fastener doesn't work well, pull it out and try again with another (I got pretty good after a few dozen, but tossed some out as I was learning).Cat Scratch Prevention Effectiveness: Best I can tell so far, wherever you place these protectors the cats do not even try to scratch - it's just not satisfying. So when affixed, these protectors work quite well!

This product has worked great on my leather sofa and upholstered furniture. My cat is no longer interested in shredding her favorite upholstered chair and has successfully started using a scratching post that she had previously ignored. It really took getting furniture protectors to get her to use the scratching board. I initially purchased the smaller 5-pack of protectors and found that I needed more coverage since I have 3 furniture pieces. I now have all of the surfaces covered and have even removed the protector from the leather sofa since the cat does not bother it. I had no residue or issue with removing the adhesive from natural leather. I did use the included tacks to fasten the protectors to my upholstered chair because there are a lot of curves on the chair. These tacks were easy to install and do not appear to damage the furniture. I imagine I will eventually remove these protectors as the cat continues to use the scratching post. I did not use tacks on the leather sofa, and the product adhered to it with no problem. After a few weeks, it is starting to lift in higher traffic areas where we rub up against it frequently, but the goal was to use these temporarily until the cat learns where to scratch. I was also able to remove and reposition these protectors and they still were very sticky.

It is an adhesive and it sticks to certain fabrics. It's important to note that not all fabrics will work with this. My couch is microfiber. After a wipe to clean the area, this adhered nicely. I wouldn't recommend leaving these on for an extended period of time. There is nothing that states to do so but out of caution, personally, I don't want the sticky part to leave marks on my furniture. So far, so good. Recommend.

I simply applied the sheets to the corners, then trimmed them up to fit the exact height of the couch itself. This kit also comes with some adorable cat-paw themed chair slippers, which you can slide over the legs of a standard dining room chair. I didn't expect those, but they're certainly cute. In summary, this kit comes with everything you should need as long as you plan out exactly what areas need to be covered.

My cats are notorious for scratching the h*ll out of furniture (even though they have several scratching pads and posts and get regular nail trims). We had to replace part of our sectional, so I added these the second the delivery people left my house. They cut very easily and the little circular pins were fairly easy to “screw” into the fabric, except where I was near the wood/metal pieces inside. They even came in a smaller strip that matched the size of the armrest area.In the third picture, you can see I even put it over top of a part of the couch they had previously scratched, which we did not replace. It hides the scratches pretty well. I missed a tiny one inch space and they definitely got their claws on it lol. We put these on each corner of our couch and they have been very effective in tracking the cats not to stretch up shed scratch the couch. They are fairly discrete as well- you can only see them if you look closely at the couch. The only down side is the cats just find a piece of the couch that is not converted to still scratch on. I view these as a device to save a certain part of the furniture from destruction that they usually go after. These are a great value for being so affordable. We’ve had the same 2 panels on each couch arm without having to replace them. We have had to replace the pins that hold it in place which could pose a safety threat if you have going kids since they are such small parts. However if you’re worried about that, you can stick the panels onto furniture and the adhesive would be strong enough to hold it without the pins.

This is a pretty simple product that has so far worked perfectly for me. It comes in a package with more than enough sheets to cover what you need. There were also some additional half cut sheet for smaller areas you need to cover. My biggest worry was these would just fall off since its essentially a sticker on fabric. These stuck way better than I had expected, plus they came with corkscrew pins for additional security to prevent from coming off. I have a particular area on my couch that all 3 of my cats love to use as a scratching post. After 1 day and a couple of tries each from the 3 of them, they've all essentially given up and moved onto their actual scratch posts. Best part is, you really don't even notice they are there all that much.

These really are a helpful and stress reducing product. The adhesive of the tape holds quite well on my style of sectional, no need for the pins that came with it for me. Our sectional is U shaped - 10 feet long and jutting out at 6 and 7 feet respectively on the ends. One pack covers all but the back, so if you have a large sectional I would suggest 2 packs. These protective covers are great! We have a cat that loved to use our couches as scratching posts and after adding these she no longer does that. They are super easy to install and are basically giant pieces of packaging tape, they also included pigtail push pins which basically screw the plastic cover into the upholstery to prevent it from unsticking. Absolutely spot on bought a brand new white couch did not want my three cats to tear it up like they’ve torn every single other couch up placed it on the front of the arms the side of the arms, the back of the arms and they absolutely don’t touch it. They don’t even rub against it. My couch is in perfect condition. The only thing is is if you walk by and press against it you stick to it. Same set on for three weeks and you can cut to specific shapes and sizes.

It's like they know there is something sticky and don't want that to touch their paws.It's "clear" and doesn't look great on the furniture but I plan to remove mine (when they're not looking) after 30 days when hopefully, the habit has been broken.The only other con while they're up is that you have to be careful not to touch it yourself and accidentally pull it off if it sticks to your clothes. I put these on my couch just about a week ago and they are successfully protecting the corners of my couch where my cat likes to scratch! These sheets really work. They were easy to apply and can be repositioned if necessary. Very sticky on both sides. My kitten touched it twice and the scratching has stopped. Added benefit: I applied it between the coach backrest and the couch cover I’m using so now the cover doesn’t slide out of place any more.

I didn't use the squiggle pegs since my kittens find it entertaining to try and remove them. Just sticking the panels to our couch and chairs made a huge difference. I highly recommend for anyone dealing with kitties who love to scratch where they shouldn't.

This is pretty nice and has enough to protect every corner on both couches. You trim it to size and this screw that resembles a needle is screwed in to hold edges.The screw does not tear up furniture, if you take it off you can barely see were it went in.

It works great for its intended use. It does obviously work and act like sheets of tape on your couch so they will get dusty and need to be replaced but our couch has been completely safe all year. Lost my car keys once and found them stuck to the tape lol

My kitties are fond of scratching upholstered furniture, and had in the past destroyed the sofa in a guest room. I have applied this product to a new sofa, and they do seem to avoid the sticky stuff. Fingers crossed that it continues to be a deterrent.

I take care of my daughter's cat sometimes and even with blankets on top, he got to the couches. We still put blankets on top, but with these underneath there was no damage and when we peeled the stickers off there was no damage to the sofa either!

This is absolutely fantastic. Adhere's to leather corners perfectly. Cat's were being typical scratcher's on our couche's, applied this product to each corner & they CANNOT scratch anymore. It is a miracle. Highly, Highly recommend this product.

I covered both sides/corners of my couch where my cat likes to scratch, and he hasn't even tried to scratch it since then. I did not use the pins and it is sticking well. (I also did small test spot first, to make sure it didn't ruin the fabric)

This stuff saved our new furniture we put it on our couch and loveseat and my cat tried scratching once and he goes stick to it and never tried scratching our furniture again so I highly recommend other people trying this item you won't be sorry

Bought a brand new sofa and got these right away. They’ve completely deterred the cats from scratching. They don’t stick the best but the pins hold them in place. The only problem is if you catch the pins on your skin or clothes it’ll rip them

I was iffy when buying these but since I've installed them my cats have not tried to scratch my couch if they have no marks are left I didn't even have to put the pins in I just stuck it straight on the couch adhesive is holding up well.

Put it along the base of our couch and it ended the temptation for our kitten! He hasn’t touched it since for several weeks. It is nice that it is so transparent, it isn’t an eye-sore and our den still looks good. East to cut to fit.

Got these to prevent my cat from scratching brand new couch. Then I bought some more when I discovered he was scratching some decorative railing in my house. These work fantastic as my cat does not scratch at these areas any more.

Yes, you can see them if you’re looking for it, but most people who come over don’t even notice. They really do protect the couch. I didn’t use the included tacks, just stuck them on. They’ve held up well for a couple months now.

So far so good. I also bought a new cat scratcher and so far, they are leaving the couch alone and using their new scratch wall. The only thing with the film is that if you cut it to fit, it is difficult to remove the top cover.

These work very well and they are easy to install. i cut a slit down the center so that i could fold them around the corner of my couch and then have and overlapping surface on the top.

These are easy to apply, not terribly noticeable, and prevent our furniture from getting scratched up when our cat climbs up or claws at the back of it. It has saved our new sectional!

Do I think these will protect my furniture from the cats? Absolutely. Do I think the adhesive will hold for a decent duration before they fall off? On flat surfaces, probably yes. On corners, it's trickier. My cats like to go for the corners and this stuff is difficult to attach there. The little curly pins included help, but they feel fragile and won't go all the way in if there's wood or backing behind the fabric. Once I focused on using them on the long flat sections of the couch instead, they've held up fine and kept my cats off those areas. Just have realistic expectations about corner coverage and you'll get value out of these.

Got a new couch, my cat thinks he's Spider-Man and likes to climb along the bottom as well as claw the sides. Application was easy but there just wasn't enough to cover all my problem areas so I had to leave about 2 inch gaps between some stickers. 3 of the stickers peeled off by the following day. The rest are in place months later still, which I honestly didn't expect. My cat scratches the small gaps I left, which is hilarious, but the actual furniture is holding up where these are applied. Not perfect but the couch would look a lot worse without them.

I didn't pay attention, my own fault. The protectors I usually get just stick on. These come with little screw things that hold the plastic in place, which I didn't like at all at first. Just know that these do not stick on. Once I got over the surprise and used the pins properly, they actually held up better than I expected. My couch corners have been protected for a few weeks now with no signs of coming loose.

I would give zero stars if I could. I placed these on my fabric couch and recliner, within 15 minutes they were coming loose. I pressed them back down several times. The next morning three pieces were in the floor. They definitely stuck better to my floor than they did my furniture. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!
